The Perfect Vice President for McCain

Fri Jul 11, 2008 at 05:57:39 PM PDT

I have to admit it is Friday Night and I am bored.  So in the spirit of Obama's new politics I decided to reach across the aisle and help my Republican friends.  Who should be McCain's vice president?  That question is vexing to the McCain brain trust.  Should it be Bobby Jindahl, the kid or maybe Mitt Romney, the ultimate flip flopper who can change his core beliefs at th drop of a hat?  Well I say neither.  Here is the perfect running mate for the good senator.

I Just gave Obama $47.00 in memory of my brother

Tue Jul 08, 2008 at 09:10:38 AM PDT

Today would have been my brother Gregg's 47th birthday.  He has been gone now for over 17 years and I miss him very much.  He was the best friend that I have ever or will ever have.  I could not think of a better tribute to him than to donate $47.00 in his memory to Obama.

D Day Plus 64 Years

Fri Jun 06, 2008 at 04:40:29 PM PDT

June 6, 1944 is one of those days that will always be a part of our national consciousness.  It is the day when many brave men landed on the beaches in France and began to free a continent from Nazism.  Those who are still alive who landed on Normandy are now very old men.  Yet their courage lives with us today.  All that the United States has become or can become is due to their valor.  The graves of their compatriots who were not so fortunate to survive lay in the quiet fields of Normandy and are never to be forgotten.

Why I Respect Father Pfleger

Sun Jun 01, 2008 at 09:11:16 AM PDT

Father Pfleger did go overboard during his sermon at Trinity United Church of Christ.  I also believe that Obama did the right thing in resigning from the Church yesterday.  There is an old cliche that it is lonley at the top.  Yet unlike those who disparage Father Pfleger as a Chicagoan I have gret respect for him.  Unlike many Liberals who talk a good game, Father Pfleger has lived the life.  He has helped more people in need than anyone I have seen and fought for social justice on the streets and deserves our respect.

How to Keep Hillary Off The Ticket

Sun May 25, 2008 at 01:52:23 PM PDT

Hillary's negatives continue to grow; yet she may possess the clout to force her way onto the ticket.  If she threatens a floor fight at the convention through her surogates she could prevail. Remember she will have about 1900 delegates at the Democratic Convention in Denver.  If she and her surrogates convince a few Obama super delegates then she could cause mischief.

The Vice Presidency is Hillary's For the Asking/Updated

Thu May 22, 2008 at 11:34:31 AM PDT

If Hillary Clinton wishes to be the vice presidential candidate on the Democratic ticket, she really cannot be stopped.  Such a proposition may not be popular on this site (or with me personally) but I think it reflects the reality that exists within the Democratic Party.

Republiican Slogan Open Thread

Sat May 17, 2008 at 08:30:08 AM PDT

The Republican Congresional Campaign Committee has introduced its slogan for the 2008 elections.  In case you don't know it is "change you deserve".  Unfortunately this slogan was taken by effexor an anti depressant drug used to treat anxiety.  So here are some thoughts for a new slogan.  Please add your own.

What Can Be Learned From West Virginia

Tue May 13, 2008 at 12:25:46 PM PDT

Barack Obama will lose the West Virginia Primary by a huge amount.  That is unfortunate but really will not affect the outcome of the nomination process or the election.  Yet the way Obama deals with places like West Virginia will tell us alot of what kind of President he will be.

The Elitist Open Thread

Fri May 09, 2008 at 02:39:08 PM PDT

I have never written a diary like this before.  So if I am breaking the rules I apologize.  I just thought it would be fun for us Obama elitist to describe our favorite form of elitism.  After all according to Bill Clinton folks like us don't deserve a President who we believe in.

Hillary Should Not Get Out Now

Thu May 08, 2008 at 09:23:48 AM PDT

I am naturally thrilled that Barack Obama will be the nominee for President.  I cannot wait to hear his acceptance speech in August.  Kos pointed out yesterday that th speech will be given on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech.  It will be a magical moment.  Yet with Obama's victory I hope Hillary Clinton stays in the race for at least the next two weeks.

Clinton and the Gas Tax/with Poll

Fri May 02, 2008 at 10:07:30 AM PDT

Even Hillary Clinton does not believe her nonsense about the efficacy of suspending the gas tax.  While as a Senator she cannot initiate tax legislation, one of her supporters is the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee--Charlie Rangel.  Yet I have not heard him espouse this idea.

Relax People

Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 06:34:39 AM PDT

The sun is shining.  Spring in in the air and it's a beautiful day.  The sky did not fall last night.  Clinton was supposed to win in Pennsylvania and she did.  The demographics and party establishment were all lined up in her favor.

Bittergate and Obama

Wed Apr 16, 2008 at 04:38:21 PM PDT

The conventional wisdom by the media pundits is that Obama stubbed his toe by his statements made in San Francisco.  The Clinton people have been playing it up like Obama said that he favored the killing of little puppies.  Her actions have shown her to be desparate.

It Is Time to Hit Back

Sun Apr 13, 2008 at 08:26:36 AM PDT

The latest attempt to portray Obama as an elitist is ridiculous.  Here is a man who could have become a major partner at any law firm in the country.  He could live in a mansion in any suburb and go to an all white church and be accepted.  Yet he chose to be part of the Black Community, and try to help people less fortunate than him.  My God what an elitist!

Tomorrow I Become A Pundit

Mon Apr 07, 2008 at 05:52:14 PM PDT

Tomorrow I am going to tape a local public access show.  I am going to be the only Obama supporter on the panel.  Since I have never done anything like this before I could use a few pointers to help me.

A Way To Unite the Democratic Party

Sun Mar 30, 2008 at 08:22:05 AM PDT

Right now everyone is concerned about the deep divisions the Obama-Clinton contest is causing the Democratic Party.  Everyone is wondering if the party can reunite after this bitter struggle or will Johm McCain waltz into the White House?  I have come up with a way to start the healing process.

Obama's Ultimate Challenge And Opportunity

Fri Mar 28, 2008 at 09:00:16 AM PDT

Many including myself have seen the divisive Democratic Primaries as being akin to a circular firing squad.  It seems that we are so busy tearing each other down in support of our candidates that we are giving the Republicans a free pass.  In a few months this game will end and unless something unusual happens Barack Obama will be the Democratic Nominee.

Whether Obama Wins Or Loses

Wed Mar 19, 2008 at 02:51:03 PM PDT

Yesterday's speech by Barack Obama will be remembered long after this election is a fleeting memory in the history of American.  He spoke a truth so self evident that Jefferson himself would stand up and applaud.  It was a message we all needed to hear and hopefully take to heart.
